Let’s Decide in 2012 —Make America Number 1 in Oil Production again
The second most important decision we must make as Americans in the next 17 months is to open the throttle on crude oil. That means more exploration, more drilling and more needed infrastructure —especially new refining capacity. There is no reason, if we will it, America cannot be producing as much oil as we consume by 2021.
There is only one reason we are not drilling and producing now. That reason is the American government. The government has stood between a petroleum free market and We the People for 45 years. Federal restrictions on petroleum go back to the 1970’s. Only Ronald Reagan and G.W. Bush, in his second term, have taken action to loosen restrictions on American oil production.
President Obama is even more destructive than Jimmy Carter. He hates petroleum in general and American petroleum leadership in particular. In 2009, the Obama Administration placed almost all reserves on Federal land off limits. The “BP spill” was a perfect opportunity to choke back America’s hope for a robust world leading petroleum industry even further. The Regime promptly canceled Gulf Coast deep-water drilling permits.
As early as May 2nd, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told CNN: “Our job basically is to keep the boot on the neck of British Petroleum.” I know. None of us are shills for BP but, like you, it makes my blood boil. You may not know this, the last 48 days of that spill was caused directly by the Regime. Meanwhile Obama fed the image of his sweet young daughter asking, “Daddy, did you plug the hole today?” This is a perfect example of why the accurate word for this crowd is “Regime.”
We can promptly turn an eager domestic industry loose in January 2013 if we do our duty and our work in the 2012 election. We must give Republican candidates for the House, the Senate and President marching orders in the campaign and then elect them. We can—must—see $60 to $65 per barrel again and pump prices for gasoline at $2.40 to $2.50. Let’s go for it! Let us begin!
