THEY GO TO DEFEND LIBERTY

My friend and health care authority, David Racer, Raised the question in his blog post yesterday, “Why do they go?”

A Father and Daughter Deploy to Afghanistan

What ideas are so strong that Americans fight and die for them?

Today I stood in church next to a father and daughter, both members of the United States Army. The pastor asked them to stand and be recognized: They are both to soon deploy to Afghanistan.

Wow. Why do people volunteer for military service?

He introduced another man, an ex-Marine, whose combat ribbons and medals would cover the entire breastplate of uniform. Among other things, the Marine flow #2 on the Blue Angels. The glory from flying those Blue Angel airshows pales in comparison with the Marine’s war record.

Incredible. For what reason did this man risk his life time and again?

I served four years in the Air Force during Vietnam, but am humbled by the service of these others.

Read it all.

There may be no better way to honor every American who fell in defense of our country
and to advance Liberty than any Memorial Day remarks by President George W. Bush. I exhort you to stop now and experience in your soul the deep appreciation due each of them. This was President Bush’s remarks, Memorial Day 2006, at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery:

THE ROLLING THUNDER 2011 RIDE FOR FREEDOM

Was Noon Sunday, May 29, 2011, Washington D.C., The Pentagon to the Vietnam Memorial

(Today’s Memorial Day event concludes with a fund raising raffle drawing at 22nd
and Constitution Avenue Northwest.)

Rolling Thunder is a worthy all American organization dedicated to service to America’s POW/MIA. Here is their MISSION STATEMENT:

Rolling Thunder, Inc.’s major function is to publicize the POW-MIA issue. To educate the public of the fact that many American prisoners of war were left behind after all past wars. To help correct the past and to protect the future veterans from being left behind should they become Prisoners Of War/Missing In Action. We are committed to helping American veterans from all wars. Rolling Thunder, Inc. is a non-profit organization and everyone donates his or her time because they believe in the POW/MIA issue.

Many of the Republican Parties “gathering stars” were in New Hampshire Sunday. Conventional thought would have any Republican who is considering a run for the Presidency in New Hampshire. Unconventional would be to have your family in that Ride for Freedom. That’s what Sarah Palin did.

Images from The Right Scoop

Is she running? It doesn’t seem to matter, She is clearly in a position to bend history towards “We the People” as she did Sunday. Take a look. Why did no other “gathering star” choose the unconventional Rolling Thunder ride? Power Line’s John Hinderaker said it best:

In principle, other politicians could do the same thing. Maybe some have. What is
different about Sarah Palin and her family is that they look natural on motorcycles. Imagine Barack Obama–or, to be bipartisan, Mitt Romney–trying to mingle with the bikers and look at home on a Harley. Heck, if one of the motorcycles broke down, Todd undoubtedly could fix it. And when Sarah greeted the crowd before the ride began, the affection from her fans didn’t need to be feigned or bused in.

ISLAM: A RELIGION NOT OF PEACE BUT OF RAPE

Norway reported (H/T Atlas) that every rape in the last five years was committed by a “Non-Westerner” (Muslim) against an “indigenous” woman. (No report on how many in Norway gag on the insufferable political correctness. Of course we suffer much the same here.)

This is, of course, not true. For every (presumably blond) “indigenous” victim reported there are likely hundreds of rapes of “Non-Western” women trapped in Islam who cannot report the crime. As you weep for the women represented through the video, weep for every woman and girl trapped in the permanent darkness of Islam and for the men, exhorted throughout their lives to freely accost, degrade and diminish women, who are robbed of the own humanity by Islam.

TURNS OUT IT WASN’T FREEDOM THEY WANTED IN CAIRO—IT WAS JERUSALEM

Egypt announced Thursday it would open the Rafah border crossing to Gaza allowing for the Muslim Brotherhood to travel freely. The announcement highlighted the Obama
attempt to betray Israel and the statesmanship and strength of Prim Minister Netanyahu. The Muslim Brotherhood’s top holy man (and Egypt’s new leader in fact) Sheik Yusuf al-Qaradawi declared his desire to see a “conquered” Jerusalem in a January 24, 2011, fatwa. In it he negated Jewish attachment to Jerusalem and stated that it is the duty of Muslims to “defend” Jerusalem with “their lives, their money and all they possess, or else they will be subject to Allah’s punishment.”

Here is the report From the Minneapolis Star Tribune. It is slanted against Israel, as they always are:

CAIRO – Egypt will permanently open its border crossing with the Gaza Strip this weekend, the government announced on Wednesday, suggesting that military leaders are being swayed by growing sentiment in favor of distancing the country from Israel.

Opening the Rafah crossing, the only official entry point outside Israel into the Palestinian territory, would ease the blockade imposed after the militant group Hamas took control of the Strip in 2007.

A report by Egypt’s state-run Middle East News Agency said the move was being adopted to “end the status of the Palestinian division and achieve national reconciliation.”

Israel warned that fully reopening the crossing could allow Hamas to build up its arsenal and create a dangerous situation.

Bowing to Israeli concerns and worried about a spillover of Islamic militant activity into Egypt, the Egyptian government has kept the Rafah crossing closed or partially closed in the years since Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip. Until last year, Egypt had opened the crossing periodically for a few days at a time every several weeks for a limited number of people, mostly medical cases and students.

In the past year, however, the crossing has been opened for limited passage since a deadly Israeli naval raid on a Turkish aid flotilla to Gaza in May 2010 drew attention to the Israeli and Egyptian border closures.

Since the Egyptian revolution that ousted President Hosni
Mubarak in February, no more than 300 Palestinians a day were allowed to leave Gaza. Now, that limit will be lifted and other restrictions will be eased, officials said.

Ghazi Hamad, the deputy foreign minister of the Hamas government in Gaza, said in a telephone interview that Egypt linked opening the border to the recent reconciliation pact between Hamas and Fatah, the mainstream Palestinian faction that administers the West Bank.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Elaraby announced a day after the reconciliation deal last month that his country would soon take steps to “ease the blockade on Gaza,” describing his country’s involvement in it as “shameful.”

Hamad said on Wednesday: “The reconciliation agreement encouraged the Egyptians to take more positive steps. They told us before that if there is a reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Fatah, the situation at the crossing will completely change.”

Israel keeps its crossings to Gaza mostly closed to passage of Palestinians, except for a limited number of people with permits for medical treatment at Israeli hospitals or for business purposes.

Egypt’s interim military leaders have been under pressure to open the border to ease the movement of people, food and humanitarian aid to the strip.

Israel opposes an open border, fearing that Hamas fighters could use it to smuggle in weapons for attacks against Israel. Up to now, Hamas has used smuggling tunnels, rather than the border crossing, to bring weapons into Gaza.

In Israel, a government official said: “Israel has no problem with civilian goods getting into the Gaza Strip. Our focus is on preventing Hamas from building up its very deadly terrorist military machine. In the past, they have succeeded in building a formidable capability despite Egyptian efforts to prevent that from happening.”

The official warned that if Egypt ceased those efforts, “the situation would be so much more dangerous.”

JARED LOUGHNER FOUND NOT COMPETENT: WAS HE COMPETENT JANUARY EIGHTH?

In this ABC World News Report, Federal Judge Larry

Burns found Jared Loughner mentally incompetent to stand trial for murder. But who was mentally
competent and responsible in Tucson before January 8th, 2011? Why yes, that would be Pima County
Sherriff Clarence Dupnik!

Here, in part, is ABC’s report: By JACK CLOHERTY, PIERRE THOMAS (@PierreTABC) and THOMAS BALDERICK, May 25, 2011

Jared Lee Loughner has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial in the Jan. 8 shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz., that left six dead and 13 wounded, including congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona.

Before being declared mentally incompetent today by federal judge Larry Burns, Loughner yelled: “Thank you for the freak show,” “She died in front of me” and “You’re treasonous.” He was removed from the courtroom.

Loughner, 22, is paranoid schizophrenic, suffering from delusions and hallucinations, according to mental
health professionals. His mental health evaluation also found that Loughner had an “irrational” distrust of his lawyers.

Loughner will be treated for his illness and reevaluated by the court in four months, but there is no guarantee he will improve enough to stand trial. Russell Weston, for instance,
walked into the U.S. Capitol in 1998 and alleged killed two police officers. Twelve years later, he has yet to stand trial.

Loughner was tackled and disarmed by bystanders and has since been charged in a 49-count federal indictment. The charges include attempting to assassinate a member of Congress and the killing of a federal judge.

Loughner’s mental health has been a subject of speculation since the shootings. Even before January, Loughner’s troubled mental state had been noticed by former friends and
classmates, as well as by the police at Pima Community College, where he was a student.

That last sentence raises questions that ABC seemingly did not pursue but they should have. The Trumpet sounded a call January 12th leading right to Pima County Sherriff Clarence Dupnik. We said:

A direct effect of the massacre by Jared Loughner may be the downfall of a public figure, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik. The Sheriff’s bazaar public political statement led his first report. Since then, he has raised the stakes each day.

You see we had evidence showing Pima County Sherriff
Dupnik had a well established record of knowledge on Loughner and his potential danger. The department had visited his home that January 8th morning. Dupnik should have acted to keep his County safe days before the massacre. Here is the remainder of the May 25 ABC story:

The legal question for Burns was straightforward: Can Loughner understand the proceedings against him and can he assist in his own defense? Burns ruled today that Loughner did not meet that minimum standard.

Joseph di Genova, a former U.S. attorney with experience in insanity defense cases, said it was unclear whether Loughner would ever be able to stand trial.

“The doctors will likely tell the court whether or not Loughner will be able to obtain competency with treatment, and how long that would likely take,” di Genova told ABC News. “Then a treatment plan would be put in place”

Di Genova said the government would likely push to keep the possibility of a trial open “unless he is psychotic or delusional to the point that he can never be made competent.”

Loughner has been in custody since being arrested at the scene of the shooting.

THE ONLY FREE ARABS ARE ALL CITIZENS OF ISRAEL

Bibi Netanyahu Was Generous —the Clear Master of His Opponents at Home, His Arab Enemies and especially America’s Weasely President.

His address to the Congress Tuesday was, to understate, inspired—the capstone of a game-changing week. The Prime Minister changed the terms of the Palestinian discussion—and more. It should be a required lesson for every Arab in the Middle East and North Africa; for every American on our endowment and for every Nation on Israel and 4 thousand years of Jewish history. Here is a mind clearing example:

“Of the 300 million Arabs in the Middle East and North Africa, only Israel’s Arab citizens enjoy real democratic rights. Now, I want you to stop for a second and think about that. Of those 300 million Arabs, less than one-half of 1 percent are truly free and they’re all citizens of Israel. This startling fact reveals a basic truth: Israel is not what is wrong with about the Middle East; Israel is what is right about the Middle East.”

Take 45 minutes or come back when you do and watch it all. It will change you for such a time as this.

“’I Will Accept a Jewish State.’ Those six words will change History.”

Yes, my friend, we can —we will— meet the calling of our time.

A FILM DESIGNED TO CATAPULT SARAH PALIN TO THE 2012 FRONT

November 18, 2010, just six months ago and right after the midterm election, Sarah Palin launched her TLC miniseries, Sarah Palin’s Alaska. Quickly, as 2011 got underway the political world threw the spotlight on the 2012 Presidential sweepstakes. My own Michele Bachmann was the top first quarter fundraiser. President Obama began his reelection campaign in April with the goal of establishing a new one quarter fundraising record. Sarah Palin strangely was not doing things a potential candidate does.

Just Monday, former Palin aide Frank Bailey, introduced his shoveling dirt at Sarah Palin “Memoir,” Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin. 24 hours later his book was largely discredited and . . .

A Real Clear Politics Real big Scoop

Shortly after Republicans swept last November to a historic victory in which Sarah Palin was credited with playing a central role, the former Alaska governor pulled aside her close aide, Rebecca Mansour, to discuss a hush-hush assignment: Reach out
to conservative filmmaker Stephen K. Bannon with a request. Ask him if he would make a series of videos extolling Palin’s governorship and laying to rest lingering questions about her controversial decision to resign from office with a year-and-a-half left in her first term. It was this abdication, Palin knew, that had made her damaged goods in the eyes of some Republicans who once were eager to get behind her potential 2012 presidential campaign.

The response was more positive than Palin could have hoped for. He’d make a feature-length movie, Bannon told Mansour, and he insisted upon taking complete control and financing it himself — to the tune of $1 million.

The fruits of that initial conversation are now complete. The result is a two-hour-long, sweeping epic, a rough cut of which Bannon screened privately for Sarah and Todd Palin last Wednesday in Arizona, where Alaska’s most famous couple has
been rumored to have purchased a new home. When it premieres in Iowa next month, the film is poised to serve as a galvanizing prelude to Palin’s prospective presidential campaign — an unconventional reintroduction to the nation that she and her political team have spent months eagerly anticipating, even as Beltway Republicans have largely concluded that she won’t run.

Bannon, a former naval officer and ex-Goldman Sachs banker, sees his documentary as the first step in Palin’s effort to rebuild her image in the eyes of voters who may have soured on her, yet might reconsider if old caricatures begin to fade. The film will also appeal to staunch Palin supporters who have long celebrated her
biting rhetoric and conservative populism yet know little about her record in Alaska and have perhaps written her off as presidential material.

“This film is a call to action for a campaign like 1976: Reagan vs. the establishment,” Bannon told RealClearPolitics. “Let’s have a good old-fashioned brouhaha.”

RealClearPolitics was recently given an exclusive screening of a rough cut of the now finished film, which Bannon designed, in part, to help catapult Palin from the presidential afterthought she has become in the eyes of many pundits directly to the front lines of the 2012 GOP conversation.

Palin initially learned about Bannon’s work after she saw one of his previous films about the origins of the tea party movement, “Generation Zero,” which premiered last year in Nashville and was later aired in prime time on the Fox News Channel. Impressed, Palin promoted “Generation Zero” via Twitter before later reaching out to Bannon about creating something to highlight her record in Alaska, where her performance in office was overshadowed by her resignation eight months after the 2008 presidential election.

Though she did not have any editorial role in the project, Palin facilitated access for Bannon and his film crew to key Alaskan defenders who were involved with the major achievements of her administration, and the filmmaker spent several weeks in the 49th state gathering archival film and conducting research and interviews for the project. He and his team took extraordinary measures to keep their endeavor secret.

When they requested from Alaska’s TV news stations footage that was shot during Palin’s political rise, they asked for additional tapes containing subject matters that were irrelevant to their project, in order not to raise suspicions. And rather than staying at the well-appointed Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage, they
instead took up temporary residence in low-key motels.

“We shot on the weekends, and we shot in locations that weren’t being used during those weekends,” Bannon said. “I did it with a handpicked crew of people I know and trust, and we were able to stay under the radar. The planning for the secrecy of this took many, many weeks.”

Bannon originally titled his film “Take a Stand,” which was the campaign slogan for Palin’s 2006 gubernatorial run when she defeated incumbent Republican Frank Murkowski in the primary before cruising in the general election to become Alaska’s youngest — and first female — chief executive. But in order to give it a more triumphant punch, the filmmaker changed the title to “The Undefeated.”

Bannon acquired the audio rights to Palin’s 2009 bestseller, “Going Rogue,” and the former vice-presidential nominee’s voice guides the film through the various stages of her career in Alaska.

Although Palin is not interviewed directly, the film features on-camera interviews and commentaries from 10 Alaskans who played different roles in her political rise, as well as six Lower 48 denizens who defend her in more visceral terms, including prominent conservative firebrands Mark Levin, Andrew Breitbart and Tammy Bruce.

Divided into three acts, the film makes the case that despite the now cliched label, Palin was indeed a maverick who confronted the powerful forces lined up against her to achieve wide-ranging success in a short period of time. The second part of the film’s message is just as clear, if more subjective: that Sarah Palin is
the only conservative leader who can both build on the legacy of the Reagan Revolution and bring the ideals of the tea party movement to the Oval Office.

Rife with religious metaphor and unmistakable allusions to Palin as a Joan of Arc-like figure, “The Undefeated” echoes Palin’s “Going Rogue” in its tidy division of the world between the heroes who are on her side and the villains who seek to thwart her at every turn.

To convey Bannon’s view of the pathology behind Palin-hatred, the film begins with a fast-paced sequence of clips showing some of the prominent celebrities who have used sexist, derogatory and generally vicious language to describe her.

Rosie O’Donnell, Matt Damon, Bill Maher, David Letterman, and Howard Stern all have brief cameos before comedian Louis C.K. goes off on a particularly ugly anti-Palin riff.

“I hate her more than anybody,” C.K. says at the end of his tirade, the rest of which is unfit to print here.

Bannon intends to release two versions of the film. An unrated edition will contain some obscene anti-Palin language and imagery, while the other is targeted to a general audience and will seek a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America.

The Making of a Politician

After a brief interlude featuring some old Palin family home video footage, Act 1 begins with Sarah as narrator, recalling the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989, when she was a young pregnant wife married to a blue-collar husband working on the North Slope.

“I hadn’t yet envisioned running for elected office,” Palin says in the audio taken from “Going Rogue,” as images of the environmental disaster unfold on the screen. “But looking back, I could see that tragedy planted a seed in me. If I ever had a chance to serve my fellow citizens, I would do so.”

An incredible (Timed perfectly?) first day of an imagination capturing roll out. Read it all here.

A TINY BIT OF O’BAMA BLARNEY BEFORE TAKING THE QUEEN

Before Taking The Despised Queen of England Out—Out of Her Home, That Is!

We all know Barak Obama despises the Queen of England. We thought it was his African roots:

But no, it could be his Irish roots:

President Obama made his statement to the British Royalty with his gift to Queen Elizabeth, an IPOD loaded with his speeches. Now, he has taken over her home, Buckingham Palace. The takeover includes significant structural changes.

UTAH, FED CHMN BERNANKE, NC CONVICT NOTHOUS: NOW JUST WHAT IS LEGAL AND ILLEGAL?

Utah Makes Gold and Silver Legal Currency; Minnesota, North Carolina and Others May Follow

The Associated Press Reported —Utah legislators want to see the dollar regain its former glory, back to the days when one could literally bank on it being “as good as gold.”

To make that point, they’ve turned it around, and made gold as good as cash. Utah became the first state in the country this month to legalize gold and silver coins as currency. The law also will exempt the sale of the coins from state capital gains taxes.

The idea was spawned by Republican state Rep. Brad Galvez, who sponsored the bill largely to serve as a protest against Federal Reserve monetary policy. Galvez says Americans are losing faith in the dollar. If you’re mad about government debt, ditch the cash. Spend your gold and silver, he says.

His idea isn’t to return to the gold standard, when the dollar was backed by gold instead of government goodwill. Instead, he just wanted to create options for consumers.

“We’re too far down the road to go back to the gold standard,” Galvez said. “This will move us toward an alternative currency.”

Earlier this month, Minnesota took a step closer to joining Utah in making gold and silver legal tender. A Republican lawmaker there introduced a bill that sets up a special committee to explore the option. North Carolina, Idaho and at least nine other states also have similar bills drafted.

What’s Legal and Illegal in the 21st Century United States Gets Stranger and Stranger!

Power Line’s Scott Johnson   writes: Our friend Seth Lipsky wasn’t able to make it to the [Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke] press conference, but he took to the pages of the Wall Street Journal to pose four questions for Bernanke. Here is the third of the four questions Seth served up:

Mr. Chairman, last month a federal jury in North Carolina convicted a man named Bernard von NotHaus of counterfeiting U.S. coins. His medallions, which he called “Liberty Dollars,” were made of silver. When he sold them he was getting about $20 for a medallion containing an ounce of silver, and now the coin is worth nearly twice that amount in U.S. dollars.

Yet the dollars you issued back when Mr. von NotHaus was in business have plunged in value to but a fraction of the silver or gold they were worth when you issued them. Mr. von NotHaus may be going to jail for years, and yet here you are. I don’t mean to suggest in any way that you broke any law, but how do you feel about this situation?

How do you, dear reader, feel about the situation?
