HOW IS THAT EGYPTIAN DEMOCRACY WORKING OUT?

Remember, The People of Egypt Demanded Democracy

It is true. Hosni Mubarak was a brutal dictator. Of course he was a pro-American brutal dictator who kept peace with Israel. So how’d the Obama Regime react?

They swung into action—the democratic aspirations of the Egyptian people must be met. Mubarak had to go. Within a week, influential exiled Islamist radical, Yusuf al-Qaradawi took over in Cairo. Even though the Army is still in charge of the government, the Muslim Brotherhood is in charge of the country and will run the government within months.

Today, according to Reuters:

Protesters in a southern Egyptian city insisted on Thursday their new Christian governor resign, stepping up a week-long challenge to his appointment by the country’s military rulers.

The army generals ruling Egypt since President Hosni Mubarak’s ouster appointed Emad Mikhail, a Copt and a senior former officer in Egypt’s vilified police force, as governor of Qena province earlier this month.

But he has so far not taken up his post because thousands of demonstrators have contested the decision, resorting to the same people-power that ended Mubarak’s 30-year rule in February.

Protesters have blocked highways and railway tracks leading to Qena, a province with a large Coptic Christian population and whose previous governor was also a Christian.

Now, there’s democracy for you, the Coptic Christian province cannot have a Christian governing. Expect the Christians to be dead or gone within ab out two years. Good thing that brutal dictator is gone. But is there more news from Egypt today? Why yes, I think there is. The Associated Press is reporting:

CAIRO – Hundreds of Islamists have staged a protest in front of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo to demand the release of an Egyptian cleric imprisoned in the United States for plots to blow up New York City landmarks.

Omar Abdel Rahman, also known as the blind sheik, is serving life in prison after a 1995 conviction for his advisory role in conspiracies to blow up the United Nations and several New York bridges and tunnels.

On Thursday, protesters near the heavily fortified embassy held banners reading “freedom for our sheik” and chanted slogans and held prayers.

The protest leader was Abboud el-Zomor, who was released from an Egyptian prison in March after serving multiple sentences for his role in the assassination of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

(However, no demonstration allowed for Terry Jones in Dearborn.)

You just read the definitive answer to the question, “How’s that Egyptian democracy working out?” Egypt (with her Suez Canal) will become an American adversary and actively hostile to Israel.

Time Magazine led their Top 100 Influential People List today with Wael Ghonim. If you are a regular here, you’ll remember Ghonim is Google’s top man in the Middle East who through Facebook networking generated the crowds in the Cairo streets beginning January 25th. Time credits Ghonim with leading Egypt to democracy. Two problems with that.

FIRST: The absence of any hope for any freedom. Oh, Egypt will have a constitution and elections—just no freedom.

SECOND: When al-Qaradawi took over February 18, speaking in front of millions, his men hustled Ghonim away. Ghonim never had one chance to stand before what thrned out to be tool of Islamism for his 15 minutes of fame.

GET YOUR BP OIL SPILL ANNIVERSARY REPORT HERE

“The Moratorium? To Me It’s The Most Irresponsible Decision that Could Have Been Made.”

Leslie Bertucci, a native of New Orleans and the owner of the oilfield equipment company R and D Enterprises.

The Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF), a fund established to compensate Gulf Coast residents in the aftermath of last year’s massive BP oil spill, said Monday it has paid out $3.8 billion so far. You will recall British Petroleum (BP) seeded the fund with $20 billion last August. GCCF has approved 300,000 claims, disallowed thousands of others and has up to half of the 857,000 submitted claims yet to process. It seems clear less than half of the 20 Billion will be awarded.

This one year anniversary of the deadly explosion that resulted in a serious petroleum spill in the Gulf of Mexico is a time for questions. I have three:

  • Who is in control of the $10 to 13 billion that will be left in the GCCF fund after the remaining claims are awarded?
  • What is the cost to our domestic oil production?
  • What impact, if any, will this event have on the 2012 election?

ONE: Who is in control? First it is not BP. Second, the “independent” GCCF is run by Kenneth Feinberg — the administration’s Wall Street “pay czar” (hack). I’d be happy to hear from anyone who can show how this money will not just slide into any number of “Chicago Way” corrupt Obama projects. Anyone taking odds that much of it finds its way into various 2012 Democrat campaigns?

TWO: The cost? The Foundry over at the Heritage Foundation rang the Morning Bell yesterday with a terrific analysis. Go there for all of it including a link to data from a Wall Street Journal Piece. But Rush summed it up like this:

Here we are now exactly one year later, offshore production has dropped 13% and crude oil prices are up by 33%. So as you pay more at the pump the drilling ban plays into that. This regime has policies that have led to the increase both in the pump price of gasoline and the oil price per barrel.

Did you get that summary? Offshore production dropped 13% and crude prices are up 33%. But the Morning Bell slant included the impact of the events on gulf coast people. Leslie Bertucci, quoted at the top, and her husband are among those severely impacted by Obama. Their story is in this three minute Heritage vidoe on the Obama moratorium.

THREE: The spill, the moratorium, and the 2012 election could not be a bigger deal. The politics is almost an afterthought on this Gulf spill anniversary; that will change. Pump prices (over $5/gal in some cities now) by themselves will make “real energy” a driving issue in this campaign. The Obama and company reaction and determination to use the tragedy to further destroy America’s energy industry is simple and clear. Americans will get it.

AND JESUS WENT INTO THE TEMPLE OF GOD. . .

On The First Day of Passover,

And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all those who sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who sold doves, and said unto them, “It is written, `My house shall be called the house of prayer,’ but ye have made it a den of thieves.” MT 21:12-13 (KJ 21)

(I understand today is the third day of Passover)

THE GREEN RACE—2011

“Debating Compact Florescent Light (CFL) Is So Passé; We Won That Battle.”

Really? Maybe Not Quite

Edmund Contoski, author of MAKERS AND TAKERS: How Wealth and Progress are Made and How They are Taken Away or Prevented, has a well researched, compelling

article at the American Thinker today, The CFL Fraud. You and I know the entire CFL hoax is designed to compel us to settle for second rate (in this case) lighting and to fill the General Electric (tax free) coffers. What we haven’t know is the CFL risk.

Contoski shows that the risk is high and dangerous with a dozen specific instances of destruction and danger to health from CFLs. But he does more; he reveals how we are being purposely misled. Go to Contoski At American Thinker to get it all. Then come back here for your introduction to the race.

The Green Race for 2011? It’ll be so special, the Volt vs. the Leaf ! We don’t have to wait! Let’s start with the Volt, Government Motors, you know.

What more could an American driver want? The 32,500 price can be reduced up to $7,500 by a Federal subsidy. Isn’t that special? The good news just started. The Volt driving range is 25 to 40 miles (average 35). Now, if you plan well, you can plug in at your destination and be all recharged for your planet saving drive home. The “small four cylinder” gasoline engine can recharge your battery. Or, if you want a break from your little charade, just use your “small four cylinder” gasoline engine to drive (kinda) like the rest of us.

Now on to the Japanese green competition Leaf.

What more could an American driver want? The 32,500 price can be reduced up to $7,500 by a Federal subsidy. Isn’t that special? But the driving range for your Leaf is a spectacular 100 miles! What if you do not quite get there. Is there a “small four cylinder” gasoline engine to get you to an electrical outlet? No, no. Nothing as gaushe as that. This car is completely inoffensive to “our mother.” Zero emissions. You may have to walk or get a tow from time to time. But unlike the Volt, with the “small four cylinder” gasoline engine, your Leaf has Zero emissions. Nisson hasn’t said if there are also zero emissions in design, production, shipping, marketing, sales and dealer services.

It’ll be interesting to see what those Volt or Leaf purchasers choose the next time they buy a car. My money is on a V-6, 24 valve BMW with no rebate and plenty of acceleration. Oh, and when you talk to someone that actually bought one, try not to explain that the “clean” electricity was actually generated with—er—coal.

A DARK, FILTHY ENTERPRISE

Opps, Light Shines On Filth That Was Supposed to Be Hidden

You may have noticed the Newsmax story Saturday that the Federal Election Commission is investigating the 2008 campaign for illegal contributions. Pamela Geller covered it in 2008 at Atlas Shrugs and detailed it in her excellent book, “The Post American Presidency.” Geller detailed significant evidence of massive illegality in a post last night. You will be astonished as you wade through the filthy swamp that is the illegal abuses of the Obama campaign. Here is one for starters:

Obama’s 2008 campaign finance records are full of riddles, mysteries, and unanswered questions. Contributing nearly $25,000 to the Obama campaign was Monir Edwan, who was listed on FEC documents as contributing from the city of Rafah in the state “GA.” Georgia? No – there is no Rafah in the Peach State. Monir Edwan sent money to Obama from Rafah, Gaza.

Rafah is a Gaza refugee camp.

You will want to book mark this powerful bright light shining on a very dark, filthy enterprise.

CLARITY IN 4 MINUTES

Why I Love President George (Dubya) Bush

(Yes, I think Hank Paulson, Ben Bernanke, and TARP were terrible decisions.)

Get started; the video will take most of our 4 minutes. (Bear with me for the first 30 seconds.)

Has a President since Washington himself (GW to his friends) been a better Commander in Chief? I’m thankful we had our own GW (G Dubya) on 911.

BREATHTAKING

“Honest Solutions” From the Republican Study Committee

Representative Jim Jordan and The Republican Study Committee have published a budget proposal that balances the Federal Budget in nine years. This is obviously a faster more aggressive solution to out of control Federal spending than Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s Path to Prosperity. Some were quick to charge that the RSC plan undercuts Chairman Ryan. On the contrary, this strengthens the Path to Prosperity.

The political reality hit President Obama last week. He is scrambling to become a deficit reducer. (I know. Go ahead and laugh.) The President will unveil his plan in a speech Wednesday. He will talk about “compromise” and “middle ground” But the middle is already occupied by Chairman Ryan and “The Path to Prosperity” budget. No question, Jordan and the 173 member Republican Study Committee have already positioned “The Path to Prosperity” firmly in the middle ground.

Don’t be confused, these following 4 graphs mix defitits and accumulated national debt.

Here is the President’s Budget

Here is the President’s Budget Thirty Years Out

Here is the “Path to Prosperity”

Here is the “Honest Solutions” 10 Years Our

REPUBLICAN STUDY COMMITTEE

Rep. Scott Garrett, Chairman, RSC Budget and Spending Task Force

HONEST SOLUTIONS

April 2011

HONEST SOLUTIONS PRINCIPLES. The Republican Study Committee’s budget is based upon the following common‐sense principles:

  • The budget should balance by a date certain within the ten years.
    • Our proposal balances the federal budget in 2020
  • The budget should provide for real improvements in Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security to ensure their long‐term sustainability.
    • Our proposal puts forward common‐sense reforms to improve Medicare and Medicaid by offering increased choices and improved services, and takes steps to save Social Security by strengthening the program’s bank account.
    •

  • The budget should reduce spending and trim down the size of government in Washington, D.C. to make government more effective and efficient.
    • Our proposal gets government out of the way so America’s businesses have the ability to grow and create jobs.
    •

  • The budget should provide for the termination of many federal programs that are unconstitutional, duplicative, or harmful to the free enterprise system in America.
    • Our proposal does what American families across the country have been required to do in these tough economic times—do more with less.
    •

  • The budget should prohibit earmarks.
    • Our proposal prohibits earmarks and eliminates pork‐barrel spending.
  • The budget should reform the federal budget process so it is easier to reduce spending than it is to increase spending.
    • Our proposal puts fair rules in place to prevent out‐of‐control Washington spending that stifles private‐sector job creation.
    •

  • The budget should keep taxes low and provide for pro‐growth tax reform to help Americans save, invest, and create jobs.
    • Our proposal prevents tax increases, repeals the tax increases in ObamaCare, keeps the tax burden from increasing beyond its historic average, and provides for pro‐growth tax reform.

Specifically, this proposal addresses the following areas to meet the Republican Study Committee’s budget principles and reflect the values of most Americans.

REDUCE SPENDING.

  • Repeal ObamaCare to eliminate $677 billion in additional spending over ten years.
  • Ensure that our nation spends responsibly by freezing total discretionary spending at 2008 level ($933 billion) beginning in 2013.
  • Ensure our nation’s national security by meeting Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ defense request.
  • Defense spending would total $696 billion in 2012 and would increase to $747 billion in 2021.
  • Reduce non‐defense discretionary spending from $409 billion in 2012 to $218 billion in 2021.
  • Reduce unnecessary mandatory spending—other than Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security—by $1.9 trillion between 2012 and 2021.

SAVE MEDICARE.

  • Strengthen Medicare’s long‐term finances. This budget would slowly phase‐in an increase in the Medicare eligibility age for those born in 1952 and after.
  • Provide improved healthcare choices for individuals at or near retirement. The RSC believes thacurrent Medicare beneficiaries should have the option to voluntarily opt‐in to a menu of private health insurance plans. This optional “premium‐support” system would be structured much like the health insurance that Members of Congress receive. Over time, Medicare would transition to a solvent premium‐support system.

REFORM MEDICAID.

  • Block‐grant Medicaid and remove Washington D.C.’s burdensome red tape. This budget would empower the states with the appropriate flexibility to determine Medicaid eligibility and benefits, thereby improving the quality of care and access to vital services for the neediest and most vulnerable Americans.

SAFEGUARD SOCIAL SECURITY.

  • Strengthen Social Security’s long‐term finances. This budget would slowly phase‐in an increase in the Social Security full retirement age for individuals born in 1952 and after.

ENACT PROGROWTH TAX REFORM.

  • Prevent any new tax increases on the American people and repeal the unaffordable $813 billion tax increase included in ObamaCare. This budget proposes a smarter tax code that would lower rates while broadening the tax base.

Specifically, this proposal addresses the following areas to meet the Republican Study Committee’s budget principles and reflect the values of most Americans.

A BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT —IS IT TIME?

With a $1.65 Trillion Deficit?

Senator Orrin Hatch has unveiled, S.J. Res. 10, a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. Hatch, among the most senior Senators, has proposed several balanced budget amendments over the years. This time may be different. This time Hatch’s Utah colleague, freshman Liberty List and  “Tea Party” Senator Mike Lee, had a balanced budget plan in the works earlier this year. The two Utah Senators, along with Texas Republican, John Cornyn and Arizona’s Jon Kyl, crafted the Amendment together.

Among the provisions of the amendment:

  • Mandates that total budgetary outlays for any fiscal year not exceed total revenues.
  • Caps federal spending at 18 percent of GDP.
  • Requires the President to submit a balanced budget to Congress every fiscal year.
  • Requires a two-thirds supermajority for any new tax, any increase in tax rates, or any bill that is a net revenue raiser. Requires a supermajority to raise the debt limit.
  • Allows for waiver of limits if there is a formal declaration of war, if the U.S. is engaged in a military conflict constituting a threat to national security, or if two-thirds of both the House and Senate approve.

47 Republicans agree.

That is no misprint. Every single Republican Senator has cosponsored S.J. Resolution 10. All 47!

So, will the 2012 Budget be balanced? No. It will hardly resemble Chairman Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity.”

How about 2013? No. President Obama will not sign a balanced budget or a balanced budget amendment. Selling the glory of his health care proposal to the Congress, September 9, 2009, President Obama pledged, “I will not sign [a bill that] adds one dime to our deficit either now or in the future.” We all know how that worked out.

But now is different. Co-Chairman of the group, Pass the Balanced Budget Amendment, Ken Buck of Colorado, believes, “The BBA has the best chance of passing since America’s fiscal mismanagement began decades ago.” But this amendment certainlywill not pass the 112th Congress with 67%. But Like Chairman Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity,” This balanced Budget Amendment changes this debate from grabbing for smoke floating over the table to feeling actual substance on the table. It is another clear indication “We the People” will prevail in 2012 and beyond.
