“HOW NOW SHALL WE LIVE?” PERSONAL PRONOUN CHRISTIANITY

At a time when America desperately needs the Church (the structural church in America and the body of Christ) to be strong; weakness, decay and sacrilege abound! The American Roman Catholic church is on its way back because of a cleaning and building and strengthening at the Vatican that goes back more than 30 years. The Vatican just ordered the drainage of a particular putrid American Catholic swamp. But that story is for another post.

Today the cause is “Evangelical Personal Pronoun Christianity.” I am an Evangelical Protestant. Evangelicalism is the last of the branches of the American Christian River to sour (decay). There are no signs of a reversal (repentance) back to Biblical truth in American Evangelicalism. A high profile example is our old “Camelbacker,” Rick Warren. But let me get closer to home—my home church. First the good news, the truth is fearlessly preached and the Gospel effectively presented at New Hope Church. Hallelujah!

But, like many evangelical enterprises in America, there are a couple areas of destruction that have been allowed to enter here. One is contemporary music. “What!,” you say, “ How can you find fault with Contemporary Christian music?” Because it is actually self centered and in the most subtle way, self-aggrandizing. For example here’s one (I actually like musically), You Are Worthy of My Praise. Take a listen:

You have already noticed that, as we sing this “praise and worship” number, we have assumed for ourselves the capacity to pronounce God worthy. Isn’t that special? If you did not notice, it reminds us of an Obama speech. Actually, the personal pronouns fly out faster than even the narcissistic Barak Obama can manage. By my count in the above presentation, typical of one at New Hope Church, there are at least 76 (—76! for heaven sake!) first person pronouns. Here is our friend, Ann Barnhardt, with the last word:

“[T]he insipid narcissim of “Contemporary Christian / Praise and Worship” music. If this is what you pump into your spirit, I can see why this is a nation of braindead, self-absorbed cowards. “You are worthy of MY praise.” I’m sure God Almighty is very relieved to know that He is WORTHY of YOUR praise. Considering that He is perfect Goodness, Beauty, Truth and Love, and you are a miserable tick of a sinner, I’m glad to know the He is WORTHY of YOUR praise. Puke. There are more first person pronouns in this pablum than in an Obama speech, and that’s saying something. Hurl.
