THE 2012 LIBERTY LIST—DON VOLARIC FOR MICHIGAN HOUSE DISTRICT 9

Don Volaric is running for congress committed to restore America’s promise. For Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores and Suburbs stretching west just north of Detroit, it is the hope and change disillusioned voters thought they had in 2008. This is the old Michigan 12th District and, slightly reconfigured, the new 9th District.

30 year Democrat incumbent, Sander Levin won’t tell you but he is in trouble. There need be no other reason than his robust commitment to Obamacare. Here is his defense of the worst legislation since, perhaps, the Fugitive Slave Act:

“Our country took an important step toward affordable health care for all Americans with the passage of the Affordable Care Act. The legislation reforms health care by protecting Americans from the worst insurance industry practices and offering the uninsured and small businesses the opportunity to obtain affordable health care plans, all while reducing the deficit by more than a trillion dollars over the next twenty years.”

Give Levin some credit here. At least the spelling is accurate. Unfortunately everything else is wrong and this introduction is more defensible than the rest.  

Here we have, in Congressman Levin, someone who proudly claims to have been on Speaker Pelosi’s secret panel of special interests and helped write the 2700 pages of boards, bureaus, czars, rules, regulations, taxes, fees, and penalties to say nothing of the planned reduced care. And Sandy Levin didn’t tell voters:

  • That the IRS will be the permanent face of your health care—Don Volaric will.
  • When there is a discrepancy or you disagree with how the PPACA is being administered, you will have to deal with the IRS to resolve the problem—Don Volaric will.
  • The massive permanent expansion of the power and reach of the Internal Revenue Service into your life and business —Don Volaric will.
  • You and your business will be subjected to 47 tax-related provisions that will impose tremendous compliance nightmares—Don Volaric will.
  • You will be subjected to more rule-based decisions about your health and health care without any personal contact—Don Volaric will.
  • Because of the vast scope of the information needed to enforce and administer the act, your privacy is a thing of the past—Don Volaric will.

Those are just a few of the ways the PPACA (that Sandy Levin proudly helped craft) usurped power to the Federal government over your life and the life of every American. Don Volaric will work with Congresswoman Bachmann and the others to repeal the PPACA pass real market based reform.

Again, Don Volaric is committed to restore America’s promise. Here are the core beliefs he says will guide him in the hard work ahead:

  • I support the United States Constitution
  • I believe in limited government and States Rights
  • I will never raise taxes and I will stop government spending
  • I support replacing the federal income tax with the Fair Tax (1st) or Flat Tax 15% across the board, no subsidies (2nd).
  • I will protect personal property and inheritance rights
  • I am Pro-Life
  • I believe the family is sovereign (off base), the 4th & 5th amendment.
  • I will work for a strong national defense based on technology, not nation building
  • I will work toward immigration reform, no amnesty and secure borders
  • I support the responsible cultivation and use of our domestic resources
  • I believe in energy independence as a key part of our national security and renewed job creation
  • I support educational choice of public, private, charter and home schooling
  • I will maintain support of our rich agricultural heritage
  • I support National Sovereignty
  • I believe Congress can only declare war.
  • I support auditing the Federal Reserve.

A NEW LABOR DAY: HONORING THOSE WHO WORK AND HONORING WORK ITSELF

“Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work.” —Exodus 20:9

This is the core part of the fourth commandment. We are commanded to rest, repose, cease, celebrate on the seventh day. But rest from what? Celebrate what? Six days of labor. The commandment says God set the pattern. The 11th verse says God completed creation in six days and rested the seventh. “Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.” It is clear the only reason the Sabbath is blessed and hallowed is because of six days of completed work—good work.

Take note of what God thought of His work. “And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31) It is clear that, when we set out on a week’s work, we should complete something—something good.

This concept is not about government or business doing their part. The commandment doesn’t say, “Work if you can find a job.” It implies we are each our own employer. It is up to us to see the work; commit to the work; do the work; celebrate the work.

Let each American learn the importance —the profound intrinsic value—of  labor. Perhaps there is no better teacher on this core value than Booker T. Washington who gained the insight at the Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute of Virginia, a school for former slaves.

“For the first time, “I learned what education was expected to do for an individual. Before going there I had a good deal of the then rather prevalent idea among our people that to secure an education meant to have a good, easy time, free from all necessity for manual labour. At Hampton I not only learned that it was not a disgrace to labour, but learned to love labour, not alone for its financial value, but for labour’s own sake and for the independence and self-reliance which the ability to do something which the world wants done brings. At that institution I got my first taste of what it meant to live a life of unselfishness, my first knowledge of the fact that the happiest individuals are those who do the most to make others useful and happy.”

Let us, as we restore America, learn to love labor for labor’s own sake. Let us set a new course this Labor Day, September 3, 2012—a course to fully restore every American’s right to work. Let the new course effectively encourage every able bodied man, woman and teen in America to, upon rising (six days a week), set upon a day of productive work. Let us begin today to restore an America that honors productive work and the men and women who build for themselves through their honest labor. They are the makers of our country. Let this be our new Labor Day motto:

“What is obtained by labor will of right be the property of him by whose labor it is gained.”

LABOR DAY: WHAT DOES IT HONOR?

Does Labor Day honor those who work to produce America’s bounty?   

Of course that should be the purpose of our national Labor Day holiday. It is not. Labor Day was adopted as a national holiday in 1894 to mollify labor unions that had from time to time rioted since 1865. The Haymarket riot in Chicago in 1886 is often credited with the political push to enact a Federal Holiday to honor labor (unions). It started as a orderly demonstration. The police were called and tensions escalated. There is no doubt demons entered into some demonstrators and the rioters became a mob; a bomb was thrown. Terror ensued and police fired weapons for a reported 2 minutes. Seven police and four strikers were killed, hundreds wounded.

It did not work out as planned—

The country was in the throes of the 1893 (economic) panic. The Pullman Company was forced to cut back. They apparently decided to cut wages instead of payroll. The unionized Pullman workforce reacted strongly. Demonstrations turned to riots. Riots turned to destruction. Hundreds of railroad cars were burned.

Democrat President Grover Cleveland sent in Federal troops. The Pullman Strike became the first national strike in United States history. Before coming to an end, it involved over 150,000 persons in twenty-seven states and territories. The Pullman strike paralyzed the nation’s railway system. The entire rail labor force in America nation walked away from their jobs.

In an effort to deal with labor demonstrations that typically became mobs, cities, as well as States, enacted labor holidays.  On June 28, 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday. The U.S. Department of Labor characterizes Labor Day in clear “Social Justice” terms:

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

There should not and need not be connotations of “social justice” or celebrations of union thuggery as we celebrate the virtue of work in America. I believe productive work is a cornerstone for America. When we honor that labor, we honor America. I propose we turn away from the past form of labor remembrance to honoring America by honoring the Americans who work. Let us start September 3, 2012.

A Prime Time speech at the Republican national Convention—what a way to join the Liberty List! That’s Mia Love, of course. She is running to defeat six term Democrat Jim Matheson in Utah’s 4th Congressional District. This story is inspiring; this story is fun. Let’s get started with her speech:

decade, while Mia has been a councilwoman or mayor (since 2009), Saratoga Springs has grown 1,700%. Yes, that is 1,700% from less than 1100 to over 18,000. According to her Campaign Web Site, “One of her first acts as mayor was to reduce the residential property tax.” Her record as mayor, “[Was] the basis for Saratoga Springs receiving the highest Standard & Poors municipal rating available to a city of its class, at a time when many cities were being downgraded.”

The Mia Love story is a fresh vibrant and compelling version of the American story—the American promise by Emma Lazarus,

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

You see, her parents immigrated legally to the United States “with $10 in their pockets in hopes of achieving the American Dream.” They came from the hopeless tragic country of Haiti where good people live lives in perpetual poverty without hope smothered by socialist corruption. Her inspiring parents worked to support and raise their three children in Brooklyn, NY. They, like so many American immigrants, by working more, were able to do more; they sent children to college. “On the day of Mia’s college orientation, her father said something to her that would become the ethos for her life: ‘Mia, your mother and I never took a handout. You will not be a burden to society. You will give back.’”

Mia Love is running on a platform of returning America to personal responsibility, limited government and fiscal discipline. That sounds exactly like America. THE 2012 LIBERTY LIST—PETE HOEKSTRA FOR U.S. SENATE IN MICHIGAN

Who would have thought just four years ago that Republicans could win elections in Michigan against Democrat incumbents? But two years ago it happened in offices from the U.S. House of Representatives to Governor. Now Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow is challenged by former Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra, the race is tied and momentum is on Pete Hoekstra’s side.

Pete Hoekstra was born in Netherlands and emigrated with his parents to the United States at age three. They became proud American citizens and settled in Holland Michigan. In 1992 Pete, facing formidable odds, ran against a sitting Republican “moderate” Congressman and won. It would be accurate to call him the original “Tea Partier” or, better yet, Pete Hoekstra was Tea Party before Tea Party was cool.

Pete served 18 years in the House of Representatives. He established a very conservative voting record and, refreshingly, a reputation for ignoring political correctness. Pete has a unique and effective way of contrasting his stand on the issues with Senator Stabenow. Go to the page. It won’t take long. You’ll learn a lot. THE 2012 LIBERTY LIST—STEVE DAINES FOR MONTANA AT LARGE HOUSE

The citizens of Montana have the same clear choice America faces in the open At Large House seat this year. Democrat Kim Gillian represents the leftist agenda, much of it couched in comforting language. She would go to Washington to promote the disastrous agenda of the past 6 years. Republican Steve Daines simply represents American values at their finest and Constitutional principles. At the Daines for Congress Web Site, the first paragraph under “Meet Steve Daines tells you all you need to know.

“Steve’s Montana journey dates back to his great-great-grandmother Karine Dyrud, who immigrated from Norway in 1869. As a widow and mother of seven children, she moved westward from Minnesota and homesteaded on the northern plains of Montana 23 miles east of Conrad. She is buried in a small Montana country cemetery near the Golden West Lutheran Church, and her tombstone sums up her life in three short words — “Saved by Grace”. Six generations later, this legacy of faith, freedom, and opportunity still exists in Steve’s family.”

Steve Daines is exactly right on issues including job creation, taxes and spending, repeal and replace Obamacare, and energy. He calls it, “Where I stand.” At the bottom of “Where I stand,” he concludes with this Jefferson quote:

“A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned – this is the sum of good government.”

THE 2012 LIBERTY LIST—RICK BERG FOR U.S. SENATE IN NORTH DAKOTA

“We Americans would rather have another opportunity than another regulation.” —Rick Berg

North Dakota has an interesting electoral history. They never vote for a Democrat presidential candidate but frequently send Democrats to the Congress. Just two years ago, the entire North Dakota Congressional delegation was Democrat but the tide that had lifted them into office was falling. The disastrous Pelosi-Reid-Obama agenda had been enabled by, among others, these North Dakota Democrats. Senator Dorgan retired and, in November, North Dakotans sent successful and popular retiring Governor, John Hoeven (the middle of three trailblazing good/smart government Governors) to the U.S. Senate to help reestablish responsible Constitutional Government.

But Democrat At Large Representative, Earl Pomeroy, not as clear headed as Dorgan, stood for reelection. Pomeroy had to face Governor Hoeven’s partner in Government success, ND House Speaker, Rick Berg. Berg, who was quickly named to the 2010 Liberty List, rolled to victory in November. In January, 2011, Berg took his place among the new Republican House majority in the new 112th Congress. Today, the House has 30 economy and country saving bills passed and waiting on Senate action. Rick Berg has been an effective part of that. Congressman Berg is a member of the conservative and important Republican Study Committee.

But Harry Reid’s Senate (51 Democrats, two Independents and 47 Republicans) have stopped, can stop, and will stop any action to save the economy, save the Constitution and save America. We the People must send (at least4) more Republicans to the Senate in the 113th Congress. Congressman Berg, knowing North Dakota—and the country needs him in the Senate, is running for Senator. Present North Dakota Democrat Senator, Kent Conrad, is smart. He is retiring. The race is between Berg and Democrat nominee Heidi Heitkamp, a well known former North Dakota Attorney General. Unlike Senator Conrad, Heikamp is not bound so tightly to Harry Reid. She will run an adept and tough campaign. But North Dakota must send one of those four patriots to the United States Senate to tie a can to Harry Reid’s tail and send him to a back office. Rick Berg must prevail. He is mounting a savvy campaign and, with the help of patriots from across America, Rick Berg will prevail.

THE 2012 LIBERTY LIST—DANIEL BONGINO FOR U.S. SENATE IN MARYLAND

One of the tenants at the Patriot’s Trumpet is “We the People—showing up for the hard work and to restore America—to the Glory of God. For conservatives, the U.S. Senate election in Maryland is the definition of hard work. Conventional wisdom and smart money says Senator Ben Cardin is a near cinch to be reelected. No Republican could win. There are two reasons those assumptions are wrong.

One is the disastrous PPACA—Obamacare. Perhaps no one running for reelection in 2012 has bound himself so closely to the ACA as Cardin. If voters learn how broadly and deeply every aspect of their lives will be diminished and controlled by this monster, they will vote to replace Obamacare and Ben Cardin. Mark my words; they will learn, they will know and they will act.

The other reason, perhaps even more important and more decisive, is the Republican candidate Dan Bongino. Dan is ready to lead an army of patriots in the hard and long work of taking Maryland back into our Constitutional Republic. Dan Bongino is the definition of the 2012 Liberty List. (We seek men and women of character and courage, who are consistent, responsible and committed to return America to a sovereign Constitutional government that, above all, stands for Liberty in the world.) Dan brings a rare level of passion, focus, and leadership as well. Here is a perfect example, “An argument about taxation is not really an argument about taxation. It is an argument about your economic liberty.”
